Kakoso upgraded into hospital

By Staff Writer
Kakoso Clinic in Chililabombwe has been upgraded into first level hospital to provide health services to the over 121, 000 residents.

This follows the plea by Chililabombwe Member of Parliament Richard Musukwa that 121, 918 residents of Chililabombwe trek to Chingola for admission.

Mr Mususkwa’s concern was some patients were dying during referral period.

In response, Health Minister Chitalu Chilufya trekked to Chililabombwe to assess the progress on the construction of Chililabombwe District Hospital.

After not being impressed with the progress he immediately declared Kakoso Clinic as the first level hospital to meet the growing need of the people.

Dr Chilufya has since deployed five specialized medical doctors to the hospital and a modern state of art X-ray machine has been installed at Kakoso.

The elate Mr Musukwa said access to health care for residents of Chililabombwe would now be cheaper because all travel expenses to visit sick relatives would be cut.

He said referral time is dangerous and at times referred cases could become unsuccessful and patients die before or soon after reaching the hospital in Chingola.

“This meant Chililabombwe residents becoming stranded in Chingola with a corpse few minutes after being referred to Nchanga North General hospital. This doesn’t mean all that were admitted in Nchanga North died, no. I’m saying that at times, the hospitals record unsuccessful cases and patients die,” he said.

Mr Musukwa who is also Mines Minister said the upgrading of Kakoso would decongest Nchanga North General Hospital thereby giving medics room to do better.

He has since donated an industrial cleaning machine valued at K950, 000 to the newly upgraded hospital to help in cleanliness.
