Chilumba declares U-17 ready for COSAFA opener

Under-17 coach Tenant Chilumba says his charges are ready for tomorrow’s opening match against Mozambique.

In an interview with FAZfootball.com after the morning training session at the Grand Baie Municipal Stadium in Mauritius, Chilumba said the team had no injury worries.

“We just have to get maximum points, we are ready for the challenge,” he said.

Meanwhile the team went about the paces with the technical bench zeroing in on tactical formations.
Zambia is in Group B alongside South Africa, Lesotho and Mozambique.

The defending champions are holed up at the Casa Florida Hotel and Spa in Pereybere.

FAZ Vice President Rix Mweemba is leading the delegation signalling the significance attached to the U17 assignment.

This year’s regional tournament has added significance as it serves as a qualifier for the 2019 African Under-17 Championships, which in turn will supply the continent’s four representatives at the FIFA Under-17 World Cup in Peru next year.

The COSAFA event runs from July 19-29 and will be the beginning of the road to the global showpiece for the 12 competing teams from the region, who all have set their sights on winning a place on the big stage.

The competition will be played at two venues in Mauritius, the St. François Xavier Stadium in Port Louis and Stade Anjalay in Belle Vue.
Matches during the tournament will be broadcast live on Kwese Free Sports across Africa.
