The Zambia Revenue Authority elite anti-smuggling squad has once again impounded a tipper truck carrying alcohol worth K250, 000 in taxes.
ZRA Communications Manager Topsy Sikalinda said the Tipper truck containing contraband was intercepted around 02:30hrs at Naduba in Chikankata district of the Southern Province destined for Lusaka.
Mr Sikalinda said the contraband is believed to have been smuggled in to Zambia by smugglers who thought by using a tipper truck would not be noticeable by the elite anti-smuggling teams.
“ZRA Commissioner General Kingsley Chanda has insisted that ZRA will not change its stance on smuggling and that smugglers will risk losing both the goods and the truck when caught,” he said.
He said transporters and truckers should ensure that they deal with legitimate clients to avoid the risk of losing their vehicles when impounded.
Mr Sikalinda said ZRA will not relent on anti-smuggling activities, despite the authority meeting its annual revenue target for 2018.
He said cases of forgery, false representation and attempted smuggling are contrary to the customs and excise act Chapter 322 of the laws of Zambia.
This is contained in a press statement made available to The Independent Observer by Mr Manager Topsy Sikalinda.
