ZNS Builds K44 Million Arena for World Skills Africa Competition

The Zambia National Service (ZNS) has begun constructing a multi-purpose arena for the World Skills Africa Competition, which Zambia will host in Livingstone in April 2025. The arena, valued at K44 million, will host 13 out of 20 skills competitions, featuring over 1,000 youths from 54 African countries.

Technology and Science Minister Felix Mutati, represented by Tourism Minister Hon. Rodney Sikumba, revealed that the arena will include a lounge, secretariat, and media area. ZNS has six months to complete the project.

TEVETA Director General Cleophas Takaiza announced that Zambian youths will be sent to China to enhance their skills ahead of the competition. Hosting the event provides an opportunity for Zambian youths to develop their skills and potentially establish Zambia as a candidate to host the World Skills Secretariat.

LIBES Principal Ignatius Lubinda welcomed the construction, stating it will benefit the college’s infrastructure development. The institute will support ZNS to ensure the project’s timely completion.

The competition arena is scheduled to be completed by October 2024, ready for the World Skills Africa Competition in April 2025.
