Zesco United on Wednesday brushed aside their disappointing ABSA Cup final loss to extend the lead at the top of the FAZ Super Division to eight points.
Zesco opened an eight point lead in the league after beating visiting Red Arrows 2-1 today just four days after losing the ABSA Cup final to Lusaka Dynamos on penalties.
Arrows made a false start at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium when taking a lead in the first minute through Diarra Allassane but his goal was canceled out by Adrian Chama’s penalty scored three minutes into first half added time.
Winger Kelvin Mubanga scored the winner for Zesco ten minutes from the final whistle as his side moved to 49 points after playing 23 matches.
Zesco are eight points ahead of second placed Forest Rangers who have played 26 matches.
In another midweek match, Lusaka Dynamos thrashed Prison Leopards 3-0 thanks to Emmanuel Chabula’s brace and another goal by Marvin Jere.
Indeni overcame Nkwazi 3-2 in Ndola and Young Green Eagles edged bottom side Kitwe United 1-0 in Kafue.
