Zesco United on Wednesday opened up a two-point lead at the summit of the Super Division log after overcoming Power Dynamos in a rescheduled Week 14 encounter.
Win over Power pushed the former champions to 31 points, two clear of second placed Zanaco.
Coach Mumamba Numba said after the win that victory over Power will motivate them to work hard in upcoming matches and for them to consolidate stay on the top.
“I think we are one of the teams that are vying for the title and we need to be consistent in picking maximum points because that is what we have been singing to the team. That is why I said if we can win five games in a row we can challenge for the title,” Numba said.
Numba said his charges accounted themselves well against Power and admitted that it was not easy to get maximum points.
And Numba is concerned with the early goals Zesco have conceded in the last two matches.
Luka Chamanga gave the visitors the lead in the seventh minute before Thabani Kamusoko and Enock Sakala Jnr netted in either half to ensure maximum points.
“That is our concern because we cannot be conceding goals in the early minutes of the game. We need to have good concentration but the good thing is we pushed harder and managed to win, ” Numba said.
Zesco conceded in the seventh minute against Buildcon last Saturday and again went behind on Wednesday at the same time.
Meanwhile, Numba has bemoaned the standard of officiating during the game against Power.
The former Zanaco coach said referee Kelvin Musonda failed to take command of the proceedings at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium.
“The referee made so many mistakes. He needed to be firm and control the game, he couldn’t control the game today that was his weakness, he needs to improve on in that area because he is the man in charge of the game, unfortunately today he couldn’t do a good job to make sure the game is played in a fair atmosphere,” he said.
