ZESCO launches token identification

By MAIMBO MWEEMBA
ZESCO has launched the token identification (TID) roll over exercise which will see the upgrading of prepaid meter software across the country.

The token Identification is a special code used to uniquely identify each prepaid electricity token that is generated at the point of purchase.

Speaking at the launch ZESCO Managing Director Victor Mapani said the token identification rollover involves two main operations which include upgrading of the software in all electricity meters and replacement of some aged meters across the country.

He said this in a speech read on his behalf by ZESCO Director Distribution and Customer Service Peter Chamfya, Zesco.

And ZESCO Deputy Director Transmission Assets Clement Siame said the upgrade is a necessary undertaking by the Corporation as over 1 million customers will be affected.

Mr Siame said the countrywide roll over will be conducted in a phased manner with Chilenje and surrounding areas being identified as phase one.

He said subsequent areas will be communicated to the public as the project unfolds.
