Sekela Ward Councillor Richard Kabwe expressed his dismay at the youth’s involvement in vandalizing Zesco power lines in his ward.
Mr Kabwe said vandalism of Zesco power cables is a national sabotage and a drawback to Government efforts to ensure effective supply of electricity.
He was speaking when he inspected a site in his ward where power lines have been vandalized.
Mr Kabwe who is also Chingola Deputy Mayor has warned the youths that those found wanting will be prosecuted.
“I am appealing to youths in my ward and across Chingola to desist from involving themselves in such illegalities or else they will face the wrath of the law and no one will bail them out.”
He has called on the youth to find meaningful sources of income and obtain skills by forming cooperatives and applying for bursaries and skills development through CDF.
Mr Kabwe also said that recently the community in Sekela has been affected by these unscrupulous individuals’ decisions of vandalizing power cables.
He has since thanked the Zambia police for their prompt response to alert calls during the late hours of the night over suspected vandals trying to steal power lines in the area.
And Annie Mwansa said it is not the first time that some people have been trying to steal the cables in the ward.
