ZCTU urges Govt to stop deducting funds from civil servants

By CLOZZEN BIKALE
Zambia Congress of Trade Union (ZCTU) vice president Newman Bubala says that Government should stop National Health Insurance Management Authority from deducting funds from the civil servants.

Mr Bubala said that NHIMA should find alternative sources of funding because workers are already overtaxed over these laws.

He said that family member and those in informal economy and unemployed are denied access to medical services under the NHIMA.

The vice president also said that it is unfair because it leaves other members of the society behind and the worst is through the system of universal coverage.

“The major challenges encountered include declining growth rates, low productivity and high levels of inflation and the debt dependence which carries these economic  conditions that will lead to adverse consequences for the Republic of Zambia, we have been forced to contend with shrinking employment and job opportunities, low wages and salaries and working conditions,” Mr. Bubala said.  “We demand that there should be a broad based economic growth that points to the needs of majority especially the workers and the people in the informal sector,” he said.

The economy should be improved and should be a reality especially in the mining, agriculture, agriculture and tourism.
