ZCCM-IH urged to engage Vedanta on KCM

By Staff Writer
Government has directed ZCCM-IH to reach out to Vedanta Resources for an out of court settlement over Konkola Copper Mines (KCM).

Speaking at a press briefing, Mines and Minerals Development Minister Paul Kabuswe says ZCCM-IH should send its lawyers to engage their counterparts from Vedanta over the matter as government is interested in dialogue.

Mr Kabuswe said government cannot wait any longer stating that the next arbitration hearing is supposed to take place on January 9, 2023.

He said that government wants normalization at KCM as soon as possible, noting that it will not tolerate investors who mistreat workers.

Mr Kabuswe said the audit of mining licenses was concluded and the report has been presented to President Hakainde Hichilema.

He also said the report will be presented at the next cabinet meeting and once its approved mining licenses will be opened.
