ZANASU ready to engage the new govt

The Zambia National Students Union (ZANASU) says they are more than ready to begin engaging the new government and all relevant stakeholders in pursuant of better education reforms and policies.

Zambia National students’ union president Steven Kanyakula says they are also delighted to welcome the inauguration of the 7th Republican President yesterday.

“This momentous occasion signifies and facilitates for the running of all departments of Government most importantly the Presidential office which gives us a sense of assurance on national security and peace in the country, students across the nation have waited for this moment,” he said.

Mr Kanyakula said that Mr Hichilema is the newest Chancellor for all Universities and Colleges in the country, so it is expected that he delivers.

“The New President amongst other promises to the Students did highlight in his campaigns the reintroduction of meal allowances, free education and many others in the Education sector, we remain optimistic that with the inaugural ceremony taking place, most of these promises may be actualized and with time for filled,” he said.

Mr Kanyakula said as soon as the National Assembly opens, ZANASU will be able to engage and quickly make submissions in respective committees bordering around education and Youths in the country.

Mr Kanyakula said reiterated that ZANASU remains nonpartisan and will support and work with the government of the day.

“In matters we disagree we shall sorely dialogue until we reach a consensus with the decision makers for the betterment of the larger student community, We wish our Commander in chief Mr Hichilema and the family, together with his yet to be announced cabinet a fruitful reign and indeed a productive First five years of running this country should the people of Zambia give him another mandate after this term,” he said.

Mr Kanyakula has also applauded the spirit that was exhibited by former President, Edgar Lungu facilitating for a smooth transition and handover in this particular election.
