Zanaco: weak and unreliable…makes wrong deductions to Chipata civil servants

By Onishias Maamba in Chipata
Scores of civil servants from across Chipata district yesterday marched to the provincial administration to present a petition against Zambia National Commercial Bank (ZANACO) Chipata branch, for wrongly deducting money from their January, 2019 salaries.

They are coming from the hassles of Jan-worry hopping to solve some problems and Zanaco fails to live up to its motto of being ‘Big, Strong and Reliable.

The aggrieved public workers who acquired loans from the bank, woke up to a rude shock when they discovered that narrations on their pay slips showed that money was deducted twice from their accounts.

Those talked to on conditions on anonymity hold that it is wrong for the bank to deduct money from their account because as far they are concerned, their loan obligations are settled through their PEMIC accounts.

And addressing the workers after a closed door meeting with representatives from the bank, Provincial Assistant Secretary, Royd Tembo regretted that the matter took a wrong twist, resulting in many people being inconvenienced.

Mr Tembo reveals that the deductions were done centrally, and that the problem is not only peculiar to Chipata, but has affected other parts of the country.

He said that the bank has since agreed to reverse all the transactions, stressing that all the anomalies will be corrected by 10:00 hours today.

He thanked the workers for conducting themselves in a peaceful manner amid the misunderstanding, noting that the bank will engage all the affected clients so as to explain what led to the error.
