Zanaco FC as they open the season

Every season brings even bigger expectations at Sunset Stadium.

The 2019 season brings even a bigger buzz having shaken up the club set up with the appointment former SuperSport Southern African Marketing guru Marlon Kananda as General Manager.

Kananda has gotten down to work putting up a team of professionals that will include a Director of Finance, Marketing and media.

However, it is what happens on the pitch that counts for success in football.

A number of aging players have been shown the door as Coach Mumamba Numba seeks to inject youthful drive in the seven time Zambian champions.

Among the high profile departures are 2012 Africa Cup winner Isaac Chansa, George Chilufya, Zimiseleni Moyo and Chongo Chirwa.

The bankers can still look to the likes of Ernest ‘Alteeza’ Mbewe, Martin Phiri, Felix Nyaende, Roger Kola, Maisha Chavda and Charles Zulu for glory in the 2019 season.

Zanaco finished in fifth position in the 2018 season with 67 points, 13 off champions Zesco United.

The bankers host Red Arrows on January 27 on the opening day of the league.

Could 2019 be a year of redemption for the bankers?
