Zamtel says it has so opened 72 mini shops countrywide as it seeks to boost its distribution network.
Speaking ahead of Youth Day celebrations under the theme, “Enhancing National Development through youth partnerships”, Zamtel Corporate Communications Manager Changwe Kabwe announced that the growth in the distribution network has also created 120 jobs for youths.
Mr Kabwe said the roll out of mini shops is helping to bring Zamtel’s products and services closer to the customer through partnerships with youth entrepreneurs.
He said opportunities for job creation for young people will be created as 250 more mini-shops are earmarked to be opened this year.
Mr Kabwe said young people should take advantage of existing opportunities to partner with Zamtel to create jobs for themselves in their respective communities.
He said Zamtel is targeting to empower youth led Zambian Small Medium Enterprises with business opportunities through the roll out of mini-shops.
“On the occasion of Youth Day, we wish to celebrate young Zambian entrepreneurs that are seizing opportunities that our mini-shops roll out is providing. We continue partnering with these young people to deliver our products and services closer to our customer,” Mr Kabwe said.
Mr Kabwe has since appealed to other young people especially those in the rural areas to partner with Zamtel and open mini-shops as a way of extending banking services to the unbanked population through the use of Zamtel Kwacha.
