ZAMMSA intensifies distribution of commodities to fight cholera

By ALICE NACHILEMBE
The Zambia Medicines and Medical Supplies Agency (ZAMMSA) has, in the last week, distributed over 160,000 various essentials commodities aimed at both treating and preventing the further spread of the disease.

ZAMMSA Senior Manager  Corporate Communications Bradley Chingobe said that this is in addition to the scheduled distribution of medicines and medical supplies to all the health facilities across the country.

We have ramped up efforts in distributing essential health commodities used in the management and treatment of Cholera in response to the Government of the Republic of Zambia’s call for a multi-sectoral approach to halt the spreading of the epidemic.

Mr Chingobe said ZAMMSA has distributed over 4600 bottles of disinfectants, 43000 packs of IV Fluids, 50000 examination gloves, 50,000 Cannulas and 8,000 Infusion giving Sets.

He said ZAMMSA has distributed more than adequate quantities of Oral Rehydration Salts (ORS), Granular Chlorine, Mannitol Solution, Shrouds for both children and adults and various protective clothing and Gumboots for health workers.

Mr Chingobe said the distribution has been intensified at the onset of the epidemic and would like to assure the nation that this distribution process to combat Cholera is ongoing and more products will be distributed countrywide.

“It should also be noted that the Agency is actively pursuing the immediate procurement of more items so as to ensure a seamless supply of key commodities required to effectively restrain this epidemic.

“ZAMMSA remains committed to providing cost effective and quality medicines to all public health facilities across the nation,” he said.
