ZAMMSA board sent on leave

By MAIMBO MWEEMBA
The entire Zambia Medicines and Medical Supplies Agency (ZAMMSA) management team has been sent on forced leave pending investigations on serious anomalies that occurred at the Agency.

ZAMMSA Board Chairperson, Anna Chifungula says among the anomalies that allegedly occurred at the Agency is the distribution of defective medicines supplied by Honeybee Pharmacy.

Ms Chifungula said the Board has also with immediate effect resolved to appoint Professor Peter Mwaba as the Interim Director General of the Agency.

She said that Professor Mwaba is expected to set up an interim management team that will restore confidence as soon as possible with support of the board.

Earlier, Health Minister, Sylvia Masebo directed the New Board to seriously investigate the recent distribution of defective drugs to Kasama General Hospital and Kabwe Central Hospital.

The health minister said the development was a serious embarrassment to the state and management must be investigated.

Ms Masebo also tasked the New Board that all medical facilities in the country are stocked with medicines within the next few weeks.
