Charge d’ Affaires Patricia Chanda has disclosed that Government has approved 43 bestowal of citizenship applications made by Zambians based in the United Kingdom.
Ms Chanda who is the Deputy High Commissioner to the UK said it is dignifying to have a native nationality as it plays an important role in preserving one’s culture and tradition and national identity.
She has called on more Zambians in UK who lost their citizenship before dual citizenship was introduced to apply for restoration.
“I am happy to inform Zambians based in the United Kingdom that the Zambian government has approved 43 bestowal of citizenship applications made by Zambian applicants based in the United Kingdom. This is very good news and as a Mission we are urging more Zambians based in the UK to apply. The applications forms can be obtained at the Zambia High Commission,” she said.
Ms Chanda also said the Diaspora in the UK are important partners in economic development and implored Zambians
to consider having dual nationality so that they can stay connected to their Zambian culture as they give back to their country.
“And let me take this opportunity to encourage you all fellow Zambians to be good ambassadors of promoting Zambia to the outside world. As Zambians, let us take it upon ourselves to change the way others think about Zambia. We, in the diaspora are the best people to market Zambia. All of us are here to improve the image of Zambia, let us show true commitment to this aim. It starts with you and me,” she said.
