A-23-year-old man has drowned in Mozambique at Mitiminyola Fishing camp after a hippo hit their boat and it capsized.

Brief facts are that Happy Makate the victim together with the brother Edwin Makate 25, left Zambia for Mozambique on a fishing expedition but as they attempted to put the fishing nets in the waters of the Zambezi for their expected first catch, a hippo hit their boat which later capsized.

This resulted into the death of Happy Makate while the brother managed to swim to safety.

Deputry Police Spokesperson Danny Mwale said the incident occurred on March 1, 2023 around 23:00 hours at Mitiminyola Fishing Camp Site in the Republic of Mozambique.

Mr Mwale said the body arrived at the harbor today, March 3, 2023 at about 00:20 hours. It was inspected and was found with no physical injuries thereby confirming a case of drowning.

He said burial will take place this morning because the body is said to be in a bad state.
