Amina Chitembo a UK based Zambian Author, Publisher and Leadership Coach has honoured her homeland, Zambia, as she is featured in a history-making exhibition celebrating 900 years of ‘Treasured People and Possessions’ at Peterborough Museum and Art Gallery.
The ‘Treasured People and Possessions’ exhibition celebrates 900 years of the rich heritage of the city of Peterborough, UK and its citizens. It features photos, treasured objects from people who have lived in the city over 900 years. It includes a special three months’ exhibition featuring eight portraits of notable current residents who share their stories and their treasured possessions.
Amina’s treasured possessions are the 50th Independence chitenge material, a Zambian map shaped clock which features the Victoria Falls and selection of books she has written/edited and published through her company Diverse Cultures Publishing.
Amina Says: “my artefacts hold a special place in my house in reminding me of my origins, my books are a constant reminder that with hard work you can be who you want to be regardless of where you live in the world. I believe that we live in a global world and Migration is exciting to me, that is why I write about it. It is important for our children to know where they come from and show them both cultures.”
The portraits were taken by Zambian born Photographer Nisha Keshav who was born in Livingstone and moved to Peterborough with her family in 1979.
The exhibition runs from 16 February – 30 June 2019.
