The Zambia Under-15 National Team has arrived from Croatia where they went to take part in the eight-team “Vlatko Markovic” Invitational Tournament.
The team were received by Football Association of Zambia General Secretary Adrian Kashala who congratulated them for putting up a good show in Osijek.
“We are happy that they are here in one piece and we are hoping to see the other two (players) plus the doctor getting back very soon as well. We are told that they are okay but it’s just the procedures that they need to go through.
“We already have an invitation in our pockets (for next year) and just before the tournament, we will prepare the team which is coming up well and look; it was an Under-16 tournament but we took the Under-15 players so for us, we believe that this whole team will still be able to travel to Croatia come next year,” he said.
Chisi Mbewe’s fledglings finished fourth at the tournament with exciting striker Joseph Sabobo Banda adding flavour to the contingent when he finished the competition as top scorer with three goals in two fixtures.
“We managed to scoop the top scorer’s award. I wish we had played all the games for us to scoop a lot of awards. We have seen so much skill from these young boys which we really need to work on and continue supporting so that when they grow up, they don’t depart from what we are teaching them at this age,” Mbewe said.
“I am happy because the boys had exposure. It was a motivational factor to the young boys. The only thing I can say is that we really need to continue supporting these young boys because these are the future national team players.” FAZ
