Outgoing US Charge’d affaires to Zambia David Young has hailed Zambia as one of the strongest democracies on the African continent.
Mr Young says this is exemplified by the country’s smooth transition of power under three different administrations.
Mr Young also called on the Zambian government to amend the Public Order Act and other laws that stifle democracy.
And Mr Young has called on the Zambia government to expunge the constitution provision that entail the Postponement of Presidential Elections when one of the candidates pulls out.
Article 52, clause six of the Zambia Constitution provides for the postponement of Presidential Elections when one of the candidates dies, stating the provision has the potential to pose an election crisis.
Mr Young said this during his Farewell Press briefing in Lusaka.
