Vice President Mutale Nalumango has expressed Zambia’s readiness to tap into the latest digital advancements, emphasizing the country’s desire to participate in the global digital landscape.
This declaration comes as Ms. Nalumango arrives in Hangzhou, China, to attend the 2024 Internet Conference, hosted by the Chinese Government from November 19 to 22, 2024.
The conference, centered on “Embracing a people-centered and artificial intelligence for good digital future – building a community with a shared future in cyberspace,” aligns with Zambia’s goals to enhance its digital infrastructure.
This move is part of Zambia’s broader efforts to leverage technology for economic growth and development.
Zambia has already made strides in digitalization, particularly in education. The Ministry of Education launched a national digital teaching and learning platform, the Learning Passport, with UNICEF’s support.
This platform provides access to digital learning materials, including audio lessons in seven local languages, and supports teachers with guides and materials.
Additionally, UNICEF and Airtel have partnered to scale up digital learning in Zambia, ensuring free access to the Learning Passport and connecting schools to the internet.
These initiatives demonstrate Zambia’s commitment to embracing digital transformation and fostering a knowledge-based economy.
By engaging with the global digital community, Zambia aims to stay abreast of the latest technological trends and innovations, driving growth and prosperity for its citizens.
