Zambia National Women’s Football Team midfield star Mary Mwakapila is pleased with the increasing number of her team mates playing outside the country.
National Team goalkeeper Hazel Natasha Nali recently joined Israeli side Hapoel Be’er Sheva from Green Buffaloes.
Mwakapila herself this year signed for Hapoel Be’ersheba to join a growing list of Shepolopolo stars based outside like China based Barbra Banda, Hellen Mubanga, and Rachel Nachula who are in Spain, and Rachel Kundananji who plays in Kazakhstan.
In a phone interview from her base in Israel, Mwakapila said Zambian female footballers are working hard to earn contracts outside.
‘I must say I am proud of my team. I believe there is hard work and high competition among us. We have set goals for ourselves which is resulting into positive results,’ she said.
Mwakapila believes having more foreign based players will add value to the women’s national team.
‘The increasing number of players outside means the team has started doing fine and the team is moving to higher heights.’
‘I am so happy and I am seeing our game improving in each and every area because of the exposure of most of the players that are playing abroad,’ Mwakapila said.
She added: ‘This has a lot to tell and to show that there is a lot of improvement in women football in Zambia.’
