A Twenty-year-old woman of Chirundu District died while her daughter survived with injuries after a tree they were seeking shelter in fell on them.
The woman identified as Grace Cheelo together with her 1-year-old baby were in their maize field when the incident occurred on February 19, 2023 around 15:00 hours at Makani village in Chirundu District.
Deputy Police Spokesperson Danny Mwale said initial investigations revealed that there was a strong wind and thunderstorm which prompted the woman to hide under a tree and in the process, the tree fell on her whilst with her baby on her back. She sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead upon arrival at Mtendere Mission Hospital.
Mr Mwale said the body of the deceased is in the same Hospital mortuary while the baby is receiving medical attention.
In another incident, Two boys aged six and seven both of Kuku Township in Lusaka drowned in Blue water Dam where they are reported to have gone swimming with their friends.
Both bodies were retrieved by members of the public who later informed Police in Kuku Township.
The incident occurred on February 19, 2023 around 15:00 hours at Blue water Dam in Kuku Township.
Bodies were deposited in the University Teaching Hospitals mortuary waiting for postmortem and burial.
And a 16-year-old boy identified as Mubita Mushokabanji drowned in Naboye Stream where he was swimming with his two friends.
The incident occurred on February 19, 2023 around 15:00 hours at Naboye Stream in Kafue District.
Police investigations revealed that the deceased was playing with his two other friends at Naboye Stream where they decided to Swim but the deceased failed and drowned.
His friends rushed to the village and informed the parents who later managed to retrieve the body.
The incident was reported to Police and officers visited the scene. Body is in Kafue General Hospital Mortuary awaiting postmortem and burial.
Police have opened Inquiry files in all the incidents.
