Woman burns son over relish

A woman of Mpatamato in Luanshaya is on the run after she allegedly burnt her eight year-old son with boiling water on allegation that he stole relish from the pot.

Benandet Mwewa the mother to Javan Sinkonde caused him to sustain burns on both palms.
Copperbelt Police Commanding Officer Peacewell Mweemba said that boiling water is alleged to have been used to inflict the injuries.
Mr Mweemba said brief facts of the matter are that the victim was caught stealing chicken from the pot which was on the brazier.

He said this is how the mother had to force the child to put both hands in a pot of boiling chicken which was on the brazier.
Mr Mweemba said the suspect (mother) later informed the sister of what she had done.
He said the child was later taken to the clinic and concerned members of the public who were at the clinic informed the police about the incident.
“Police quickly rushed to the clinic and confirmed the report. A follow up was made with a view of apprehending the suspect, only to find she had fled to unknown place. However efforts are been made to bring the culprit to book and victim has been taken to Roan Hospital where he has been admitted and the condition is stable,” he said.
