A-52-year-old wife of Chingola’s Chiwempala area has died in uncertain circumstances after picking a fight with her husband.

Copperbelt Police Commanding Officer Peacewell Mweemba said the incident happened on November 11 at around 13:00 hours when Charity Mukobe the victim came back home in a drunken state.

Mr Mweemba said the victim and the husband George Chokwe was heard exchanging insults by their granddaughter who says the exchange lasted for about five minutes.

He said that Josephine Musonda the granddaughter then heard a bang in the house as though something had fallen to the ground.

“She was later called inside by her grandfather and upon entry, to her surprise she saw her grandmother laying on the floor facing upwards with blood coming out of her nose. Josephine tried to wake her up, but she was irresponsive, then she later questioned her grandfather Chokwe, who replied that she fell on the mat during the quarrel and hurt herself,” he said.

Mr Mweemba stated that police suspects that during the quarrel, the couple could have been pulling each other which caused the other to fall.

He said the victim was later taken to Chawama clinic where she was pronounced dead upon arrival, and it was later discovered that she sustained a deep cut between her nose and upper lip.

Mr Mweemba added that the suspect husband has since been arrested and detained to aid in the investigations.

He added that the body of the victim has since been deposited at Nchanga North General Hospital mortuary awaiting postmortem and burial.
