Withdraw police reserve, police urged.

By MAIMBO MWEEMBA

The United Party for National Development (UPND) National Youth leadership has called for a countrywide withdraw of reserve police officers now that the election period is over.

UPND National Youth Chairperson Gilbert Liswaniso said his party is concerned by the observation that some volunteer police officers are allegedly beating party members found wearing red.

Mr Liswaniso added that the ruling party leadership suspects that the reserve police officers that are allegedly beating UPND members wearing red, are those that were part of the opposition PF security wing during the August 12 general elections.

Mr Liswaniso has called on opposition PF members to surrender guns they were allegedly carrying during the election period.

“I want to appeal to the Zambia Police to ensure that all firearms that are illegally being kept by PF members are surrendered to them, UPND wants peace to prevail in the country that is why we are calling on PF members to be remorseful,” he said

Mr Liswaniso said this during a media briefing.
