Young Women Christian Association Zambia (YWCA) National Youth Chairperson Besa Kambafwile has implored the general public to always report cases of rape to the police instead of having family meeting.
Ms Kambafwile said it is the responsibility of every family member to report those who sexually defile children to police so that the law can take its course.
She said that failure to report the defilement and rape cases will hinder justice for children whereby destroying their minds.
“I would like to remind the general public that when a child is raped by a relative, call the police and not have a family meeting. This way will help reduce wrong doers in the community,” she said.
She said law in the country does not hesitate to deal with the people who defile children in society.
Ms Kambafwile said that failure to report the cases of rape to the police is being an accomplice of the crime.
She said the right of the child should be taken as priority and no one should try to infringe on the rights of the child not even the relatives.
Ms Kambafwile has called on everyone to join hands in reporting matters of rape to the police so that the culprits can be brought to book.
She said that children are the future leaders as such their rights must be safeguarded at all cost instead of protecting family affairs.
