Weigh yourselves before contesting presidential polls-MMD

By MAIMBO MWEEMBA
Movement for Multi-Party Democracy spokesperson Cephas Mukuka has urged some political parties to weigh themselves before participating in the August 12 elections.

Mr Mukuka said as much as it is everyone’s democratic right to participate in elections; it will be wise for some opposition political parties to withdraw from the race.

“We appeal to some opposition parties to withdraw from the presidential race and re-examine themselves just like the way New Congress Party Peter Chanda has done,” he said.

Mr Mukuka said the elections must be treated with the seriousness they deserve and it should not be about prestige but about one’s ability to transform the country.

“Eighteen presidential candidates on the ballot are just too many, it will be wise for political parties with the capacity to change the economic fortunes of the country be allowed to contest,” he said.

Mr Mukuka commended the New Congress Leader Peter Chanda for withdrawing from the presidential race as it was the right thing to do.
