Ministry of Labour and Social Security, Acting Permanent Secretary, Zechariah Luhanga has said his Ministry working in collaboration with Smart Zambia, has developed the Web Based Labour Market Information System.
Mr. Luhanga stated that this LMIS is a computer software application that allows officers to input data while conducting field inspections timely and accurately.
He disclosed that the LMIS will among others, help officers collect information regarding employer registration, labour inspections, labour complaints/disputes, child labour and industrial relations. Adding that this information will undoubtedly enable government and other stakeholders make timely informed decisions in the employment and labour market.
The Acting Permanent Secretary, said this during the handover of LMIS ICT equipment to Lusaka Province Labour Offices through the office of the Lusaka Province Permanent Secretary, Robert Kamalata at his office here in Lusaka.
Mr. Luhanga explained that the procured LMIS equipment which are being delivered to all districts to Labour Officers in the country, included desk top computers, printers, Wi-Fi routers and tablets.
Mr. Luhanga informed his counterpart that his Ministry working with Public Service Management Division was is in a process of aligning staff to economically viable districts so that labour related matters are expeditiously addressed.
He said this intervention was bolstered following the treasury authority his ministry received last year to reactivate and create 25 positions.
Lusaka Province
Permanent Secretary, Robert Kamalata applauded the Ministry of Labour and Social Security for procuring the LMIS ICT equipment for the Labour Officers in his Province adding that his office will ensure the equipment are put to good use to benefit Government.
Mr. Kamalata appealed to the Ministry of Labour and Social Security to also look into transport challenges being encountered by field staff and expedite the realignment of staff in his Province.
