WDCs urged to take lead in 8NDP

By CLOZZEN BIKALE
Mushindamo District Commissioner Andrew Kalangwa has called on Ward Development Committee (WDCs) members to take a lead in reviewing the eighth National Development Plan (8NDP) in order to address all challenges in the final document.

Speaking when he opened a meeting for the review of the 8NDP for WDCs and Councillors, Mr Kalangwa said the 8NDP document gives a roadmap for the nation’s vision, 2030.
“For this vision to be attained, ward development committees must support government programs”, he said.

Mr Kalangwa said government can only attain its developmental agenda if all structures in governance are functional and work together.

And North western province assistant director, planning, Davison Mapiza said government remains committed towards attaining decentralization.

Mr Mapiza said decentralization has not been achieved in the recent past due to lack of active participation of key structures such as WDCs.

“The 8NDP is an important document for policy direction, and our councillors and ward development committees should be active in ensuring this document is inclusive”, he said.

Mr Mapiza said the document provides a roadmap for development for the next five years in Zambia.

He added that once the document is validated, an implementation plan will be developed to ensure works begin in various wards.
