Water sources to be protected

Solwezi Municipal Council has reaffirmed its call to have all structures belt along the Water sources be demolished.

Solwezi Mayor Remmy Kalepa has directed the Solwezi Municipal Council, Water Resources management Authority (WARMA) and all government line ministries to work together and ensuring that all structures belt in water sensitive areas in Kifubwa and Solwezi Rivers be demolished in order to preserve lives.

Mr Kalepa said it Is important to prioritize and continue monitoring water security threats of aquifers , wetlands, quarries, Dambos  marshlands and headwaters.

He added that Government attaches the important contribution that forests and water bodies provide to the social-Economic wellbeing of the people.

He said that that Government working with other cooperating partners is implementing various programs and activities aimed at contributing to safeguarding the water resources.

Mr Kalepa said that there is an increase in population and this seen the increase in farming activities along Kifubwa and Solwezi Rivers.

Mr Kalepa was speaking during the preparation ahead of  the commemoration of world Water day which falls on 22 March 2022 which will be held under the theme; ground Making the invisible visible
