Care for Nature Zambia Executive Director Kearns Musonda says the water shortages that have hit most communities in Mansa Luapula Province is worrying.
Ms Musonda said that the Water shortage in the district is due to excess heat and prolonged dry spells resulting from climate change.
She said the crisis which has left most wells drying up mostly affecting women and children who are walking long distances to get a10 liters of water.
“If this situation is left unchecked can result in outbreak of water born diseases, and situation like these also put women on a high risk of gender based violence,” she said.
Ms Musonda has urged the communities to quickly meet with their Councilors discuss the issue, adding that this are some of the problems that can addressed using Community Development Fund (CDF) which the Council has received.
