Water Development, Sanitation and Environmental Protection Minister Rapheal Nakachinda has called for home grown solutions in the water sector, if water Utility companies are to meet the demand.
Mr Nakacinda said the cost of importing water treatment equipment is huge, and that utility firms must Come up with Mechanisms of embracing local solutions.
He said this when he inspected works for the construction of the 18 Million Kwacha North Western and Sanitation Water treatment plant in Solwezi.
And North Western Water and Sanitation Company, Technical Manager Kabika Mufalo said, Climate change had continued to threaten the water sector in the area, which has resulted in the reduction of the water Volume.
Eng Mufalo said, there is need to continue with the construction of more water reservoirs for future eventualities.
He said the company is at the moment only able to produce 400 Cubic meters of water with a deficit of 800 cubic meters of water.
