Voter education vital in electoral process-PLGO

By ALICE NACHILEMBE
North Western Provincial Local Government Officer (PLGO) Adrian Zulu says that Voter education is an important programme which seeks to mobilize citizens to participate in the electoral process.

Mr Zulu said voter education improves people’s voter education knowledge, skills and attitudes to enable them discharge their democratic responsibility effectively.

He said this yesterday when he officially opened the North Western Provincial Workshop for District Voter Education Trainers (DVETs) which will run from today 21st September to 26th September 2020.

Mr Zulu said the workshop was with a call not only to end on being Trainers but also day to day voter education activists who will contribute in disseminating information within their spheres of influence.

He also said that the principle of non-partisanship and political neutrality must be upheld at all times whether as Trainer or Voter Education Facilitator, in the delivery of voter education.

He revealed that the Electoral Commission of Zambia plans to undertake a robust national voter education programme to mobilize first time voters, youths, women, persons with disabilities and those who are currently registered.

He said training of the DVETs is significant in enhancing the quality and skills of officers carrying out various electoral assignments.

The Electoral Commission of Zambia is scheduled to conduct Voter Registration exercise from 28th October to 30th November 2020 and targets to approximately register 9 million eligible voters in this year’s registration.
