VAR rules out Patson Daka’s goal as Leicester draw with Napoli

Zambia National team striker Patson Daka’s celebration was cut short by the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) after his goal was ruled out for an offside as the Foxes gave away a two-goal lead to draw at home on Thursday night.

The 22-year-old made his first competitive start for Brendan Roger’s men leading the line alongside senior man, Nigerian striker Kelechi Iheanacho as Leicester City welcomed Napoli at the King Power Stadium in a UEFA Europa League group opener.

Leicester made a strong start and was 1-0 up just nine minutes into the match. Harvey Barnes galloped down the left channel playing a one-two with Patson Daka then looking up and picking out Pérez, rushing into the 18-yard box on the far side for the Foxes opener.

Napoli then started controlling play after going down, creating chances, and earning a lot of set pieces but Leicester nearly doubled the lead at the hour mark.

Iheanacho fed Substitute, in turn, slid it in Daka to rifle the ball into the bottom corner. Filbert Way erupted and the two sides were back in their places for kick-off when VAR interjected to rule the strikeout for offside.
