Zesco says it is saddened by suspected case of vandalism on the Zambian Interconnected Power System located near Kankundwe area in Kabwe, Central Province.

Zesco Public Relations Manager Hazel Zulu said the retrogressive act cost the corporation about K2.5 million in repair works.

Ms Zulu has assured the public that the maintenance team has since commenced repair works which are expected to be completed by Saturday 31st July 2021.

She said that despite the sufficient capacity of the remaining transmission lines between Kabwe and the Copperbelt province to meet the requirements of the two provinces, customers may experience intermittent load management in selected areas on the Copperbelt and Northwestern provinces.

ZESCO Limited will continue to keep the public informed and updated on the matter. The incident which occurred on Sunday 25th July 2021 at 08:15hours has resulted in a system disturbance. We hope that the culprits are quickly arrested and brought to book,” she said.

Ms Zulu said the deliberate removal of bolts and nuts had weakened the tower structure which led to its collapse following heavy winds experienced in the area.
