Mulonga Water Supply and Sanitation Company (MWSC) says the increase in vandalism and theft cases of water and sanitation infrastructure has led to the disrupting of smooth operations.

MWSC Communications Manager Bright Mtonga said that the recent theft of sewer lines in Chingola and vandalism of water supply line in Mufulira are in a long line of a trend which is a threat to company operations.

Mr Mtonga said unknown people stole a 50 meters 12 inch HDPE sewer pipe valued at K40, 000 in Nchanga North Area of Chingola.

He said it has resulted in disturbance in the operations of Misoshi Sewage Pump Station.

Mr Mtonga said the cost of reinstalling the sewer line is K53, 000.

He said in a similar development unknown people vandalized an 8 inch water supply line in Butondo Township in Mufulira causing water interruption in the area.

Mr Mtonga said the company is appealing to the general public to report any suspicious activities to Zambia Police or MWSC using contact center (2012 MTN only) to ensure that culprits are brought tobook.

“Vandalism and thefts are a deterrent to national development and it is incumbent upon

members of the public to help curb this scourge,” he said.
