UPND Kapijimpanga ward Councillor Alex Pupe has been elected as new Solwezi Deputy Mayor following the elections held yesterday during the first ordinary Council meeting after the 2021 General Elections.
Solwezi Municipal Council Town Clerk Bornwell Luanga who performed functions of the Returning Officer declared Councillor Pupe as duly elected after amassing seven votes in comparison to his only contender Councillor Saviye Kayombo of Tumvwanganai Ward who got six while one vote was rejected.
His Worship the Mayor Remmy Kalepa implored all the Councillors to serve the residents of solwezi diligently as they collectively have the responsibility to bridge the gap between the community and the Council as well as make policies that will meet the needs of all residents in Solwezi.
After election of the Deputy Mayor, Council went straight into adoption of constitution of Standing Committees and the Calendar of meetings for the Civic Year 2021-2022 subject to provisions of the Local Government Act No. 2 of 2019.
The Standing Committees under consideration included: The Finance, Human Resource and General Purposes (FHRGP) Committee, Audit Committee (AC), Plans, Works, Development and Real Estate PWDRE) Committee as well as the Environment, Health and Social Services (EHSS) Committee.
