UPND distance itself from court matters filed by Katuba MP

By IREEN MULENGA
United Party For National Development (UPND) says it is not aware of media reports that Katuba Member of Parliament (MP) Bampi Kapalasa has filed court documents relating to the eligibility of PF Party President Edgar Lungu to contest the Presidency in the August general elections.

UPND Secretary General Batuke Imenda said that the party is not aware of the court process hence they distanced themselves from the matter.

Mr Imenda said that the PF President Mr Lungu is not yet a candidate for elections because the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) has published a calendar which shows allotted dates for petitions related to candidates.

He said it is premature to do that until such a time when candidates finally file in nominations papers.

Mr Imenda said that what Kapalasa has done is purely in his personal capacity for which he is entitled as a citizen.

“Should the party decide to petition any action related to the electoral process ahead of elections, we shall follow laid down procedures as prescribed by law,” he said.
