UPND alliance resumes campaign activities

By MAIMBO MWEEMBA
The UPND Alliance has resumed their campaign activities with immediate effect, last week; the alliance’s leader Hakainde Hichilema suspended all campaigns due to the death of first president Dr Kenneth Kaunda.

UPND alliance Secretary General Batuke Imenda said it is in order for the Alliance to resume campaign activities because an election is a constitutional matter.

Mr Imenda said that the campaigns will be conducted under strict adherence to the Covid-19 guidelines.

“While undertaking campaigns infuse the message of love, peace and unity as preached by Dr Kaunda, all members in party to highlight that the fact that Dr Kaunda governed the country under zero tolerance to corruption, maintained the rule of law and did not entertain tribalism,” he said.

Mr Imenda said the UPND alliance will not hold the campaigns on Dr Kaunda’s burial day on July 7, 2021.

“When campaigning maintain social distance, wear face masks and ensure that we follow all other set Covid-19 measures as guided by the ministry of health so that the spread of the coronavirus is curbed,” he said.

Mr Imenda has urged party members to conduct violence free campaigns and adhere to the directives by the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ).
