UNZA student commits suicide

A-second- year student from the University of Zambia is alleged to have committed suicide.

This occurred on January 29, 2023 around 09:00 hours at House number E5, Handsworth Court, and University of Zambia

Police Assistant Spokesperson Godfrey Chilabi said Police were alerted that a student only identified as Mashuko Kanjipite a student at the University of Zambia was found hanging on the bathroom window.

Mr Chilabi said he was immediately rushed to Levy Mwanawasa University Teaching Hospital where he was pronounced dead upon arrival.

He said the victim’s body was deposited in the same Hospital mortuary awaiting postmortem and further identification.

In a related incident, Police in Lusaka recorded a case of Murder involving a-36-year-old identified as Yvonne Kabwe.

This occurred on January 29, 2023 at around 08:00hrs hours in Chelston.

A report was received from the employer in Kuku Farms Obama, Lusaka, to the effect that her maid Yvonne Kabwe, died at the above mentioned health facility after allegedly been beaten and injured by Derrick and Kebby other names unknown. The two were reported to be former boyfriends to the victim.

Mr Chilabi said she sustained swollen right cheek, face and general body pains. Unknown objects were used in the act.

He said preliminary investigations indicate that on the fateful date reported to her employer that she was not feeling too well without divulging into any further details.

Later information came to the employer’s knowledge that actually her maid was allegedly beaten.

The body is lying in the University Teaching Hospitals mortuary awaiting postmortem.

A manhunt has been launched for the two suspects who are believed to be on the run.
