The University of Zambia (UNZA) is pleased with the performance of the Bachelor of Laws (LLB) graduates in the Zambia Institute for Advanced Legal Education (ZIALE) mid-year exams that were held in November 2019.
Out of the fifty two (52) UNZA graduates that sat for the Legal Practitioners’ Qualifying Mid-Year Examinations, 69% of the graduates passed at least half of the ten (10) heads needed to qualify for legal practice. Impressively, of the 10 students who passed all 10 heads needed, seven (7) were from the UNZA School of Law.
The University of Zambia (UNZA) is further impressed with the total number of females that sat for the exam representing 48% of the candidates.
Meanwhile, UNZA Vice Chancellor Prof. Luke Mumba has congratulated UNZA School of Law graduates for putting up an excellent performance at ZIALE.
Further, the Vice Chancellor has recognized and expressed gratitude at the hard work and endurance that the graduates put in.
And the Dean of the School of Law, Prof. Chuma Himonga, says the staff of the School of Law at UNZA are extremely proud of the performance of the Law graduates. She has thanked and commended ZIALE for the good performance of the students.
She has however, expressed hope that greater numbers across all universities could qualify at ZIALE to address the country’s dire need for more lawyers to improve citizens’ access to justice.
Prof. Himonga has also encouraged the students at ZIALE to remain focused as they prepare for their final examinations in the next few months.
The University of Zambia School of Law is the oldest and most prestigious Law School in Zambia with over 60% of its Faculty in possession of PhDs from Ivy league institutions. The School boasts of having educated a wide range of notable alumni including three (3) Republican Presidents on the African Continent: President Levy Patrick Mwanawasa SC (1974), his Excellency Edgar Chagwa Lungu (1981) and his Excellency Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa of Zimbabwe (1976).
The School has also produced several leading legal practitioners, Attorney-Generals, Speaker of the National Assembly, Cabinet Ministers and Supreme Court Justices, including five (5) Chief Justices, one of whom is the incumbent Justice Ireen Mambilima.
