Unknown disease killing livestock in Kalomo

An unknown disease outbreak is killing livestock, especially pigs, in some parts of Kalomo district, Southern province.

Farmers have since called on the Department of Animal Health to thoroughly investigate the disease, which has been reported from various agriculture camps in the district.

Siachitema Agriculture Camp Community Livestock Auxiliary Officer, Maxmilan Ngandu has confirmed, saying pigs are dying in numbers, due to the mysterious disease outbreak.

And Kalomo District Veterinary Officer, Wilfred Chapabuku has confirmed having received reports, saying samples have already been collected.

Dr. Chapabuku has explained that laboratory tests results show that there are no signs of African swine fever, as suspected by the farmers.

He also aid investigations will be carried out, as the neighboring Choma district has recorded some African swine fever cases.
