The number of street children roaming the business center in Chingola has really increased and gives a very sad reading to the parents, guardians and the public in Chingola district on the Copperbelt.
The sad part is that most of these Children have parents and are just ranging from 8 to 15 years of age and are supposed to be in schools but are found in town day and night.
In fact at night they attack lone adults and steal their parcels, cell phones money and shoes.
These Children take alcohol and other illicit drugs and spend nights in corridor shops.
It is not normal for children at that age to be in streets, the community has created the “I don’t care’ attitude causing moral decay in our society.
I would like to appeal to our leaders in the district to address this issue seriously. Talk to the parents concerned; counsel the teenagers where possible rehabilitate them.
The police should also help by patrolling the business center at night and get rid of these undesirable elements who are not only making our town dirty but terrorizing innocent people at night.
Let us make Chingola town clean and green.
