Two women child stealers arrested

By ALICE NACHILEMBE

Two women who are alleged to have stolen a-five-year -old girl in  Lusaka’s John Howard Township have been arrested while the child has been recovered.

Police Spokesperson Rae Hamoonga said on August 15,  the suspect Jonathan Mubanga approached two women identified as Beauty Nayame 24, and Edna Chibesa 24 both of John Howard Township that he wanted a female juvenile to feature in a video he was shooting.

Mr Hamoonga said the duo got the child from her grandmother and went with the child into town so that she can feature in the video but upon reaching down town the suspect demanded that the child needed to have her hair done and wear new clothing.

He said the two women have no relationship with the same girl.

Mr Hamoonga said he was allowed to go with the child while the duo was told to wait in the saloon where the child was supposed to have her hair done from, but he never returned.

“Police instituted Investigations into the matter and later incorporated Zambia Information and Communication Technology Authority (ZICTA) and with the aid of a Tracking System Device was used to locate the person who was keeping the Child in Shimabala area of Kafue District.

“Upon finding the child, it was established that it was Jonathan who took the child to his friend’s place for safe custody where he went with a pretext of  looking  for a rented house but he never returned to collect the victim until police found the child on yesterday August 17,2022 at around 17:30 hours, he said.

He said the victim’s condition is reported to be stable while the duo who took the child to town is currently detained in police custody and the suspect is on the run.

Police have launched a manhunt for the suspect and investigations into the matter are ongoing.
