China–Goe has begun taring Freedom Avenue to bituminous standard.
The closure of Freedom Avenue to facilitate road works has been the cause of heavy traffic in Chingola which make motorists take minutes to pass through Chingola.
This is a stretch from welcome to Chingola roundabout to Chingola District Commissioner’s office which link Chingola to Solwezi and Chililabombwe towns.
Chingola Mayor Titus Tembo yesterday morning witnessed the tarring of Freedom Avenue from Welcome to Chingola round-about to the DCs office.
Mr Tembo expressed happiness with the progress and the speed at which the contractor is moving.
He said the workmanship of China Geo was good an indication that in the coming few weeks the outlook of the roads will change.
The mayor said once the road works are done the face of Chingola would change.
Mr Tembo said once it is done the cost of doing business and travelling will reduce as it is a busy road that link to the boarder and Solwezi town.
“The road was in bad state but after it is done time of doing business will be reduced as well as dust emission. This year will be singing a different song on the issue of the roads. We must appreciate what government is doing.
“Threes contractors namely Syno Hydro, Avic and China Geo are on site and come December issue of the roads will be a song of the past,” he said
He has called on road users to continue exercising patience while the roads are been worked on.
And China Goe General Foreman Jonathan Mangeya said that 80 per cent of the works have been done and by the end of July all the works will be complete on this stretch.
