Police in Nakonde have arrested three Tanzanian Nationals for having fake trademarks of cane Bols and Konyagi spirits.
The trio was charged and arrested for the offence of Counterfeiting Trade Marks Contrary to the laws of Zambia.
Police Spokesperson Rae Hamoonga said this was after Police received intelligence information at Nakonde Police Station on August 15, 2022 at 17:00 hours from a concerned member of the public.
Mr Hamoonga said the offence is alleged to have been committed on August 15, 2022 at around 16:30 hours at Maloni village in Chief Waitwika of Nakonde District.
He said brief facts of the matter are that a Police patrol team from Nakonde Police Station was dispatched and conducted intelligence led operation targeting illegal counterfeit cane spirits manufacturers in Maloni.
Mr Hamoonga said the patrol team managed to apprehend three Tanzanian Nationals, a man and two women.
He identified suspects as Samuel Jumanne 25, of Mbemba in Tunduma and the two women as Devota Nelson, 29 and Margret Mwanpaza 25, both of Mwakakati in Tunduma.
Police Officers seized the following items and products that were found with the three suspects: Three Buckets of empty sachets of counterfeit bols and konyagi spirits, seventeen rolls of empty Bols and konyagi sachets, Four Gas Cylinders, Eight bottles of Universal Stainer, Five plastic dishes, and Two 20 litres containers of ethanol and Two 210 litres drums filled with unknown substance.
The three suspects have since been detained in Police custody and will appear in court soon.
