Zambia have recorded their first home win in the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers after thumping Mauritania 4-0 in the formality Group B match at National Heroes in Lusaka.
Chipolopolo, who are out of the race to Qatar, needed Scotland based forward Fashion Sakala to guide them to victory on Saturday afternoon.
Sakala scored a hat-trick with goals registered in the 36th, 45th and 62nd minutes.
Earlier in the 33rd minute, Leicester City striker Patson Daka put Zambia in front with a chested goal off captain Lubambo Musonda’s cross.
Coach Beston Chambeshi lined up a strong squad containing Russia based striker Evans Kangwa, Emmanuel Banda, Simon Silwimba, Rally Bwalya and Tandi Mwape among other stars.
Despite not scoring, Kangwa put up a man of the match display.
Meanwhile, Zambia moved into second position tied on seven points with Equatorial Guinea, who are hosting Tunisia later on Saturday evening.
Tunisia top Group B on 10 points.
Zambia will conclude the failed World Cup bid on Tuesday with an away Group B match against Tunisia.
