The Mbesuma Conquest Raises Congo Dust

At the mention of Zambia, almost every credible soccer fan you meet in Congo Brazzaville takes you back to the October 10, 2004 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier at the iconic Alphonse Massemba-Debat Stadium.

One name keeps popping up in Collins ‘Ntofo Ntofo’ Mbesuma later to christen himself King David.

On that afternoon Mbesuma bagged a memorable hat-trick to silence the Red Devils fans at the Alphonse Massemba-Debat with the game ending 3-2.

Today Mbesuma may no longer don the Chipolopolo strip but his ghost will loom large within the confines of the Alphonse Massemba-Debat Stadium.

Don’t they say history has a tendency of repeating itself? Can Patson Daka and company fashion yet another glorious piece of history on foreign soil?

Kickoff is at 15:30 hours local time (16:30 hours Zambian time).
